Located on the Ningyuan Street in the Xinfu District of Fushun, the Prison Museum covers an area of 40,000 square meters. It was originally the Third Prison in East Liaoning. In 1950, it became the prison for re-educating national and international war criminals. Imprisoned there were the Last Emperor Puyi and his royal family members, the Japanese prisoners of war, and Kuomindang (Nationalist Party) prisoners. The number of prisoners totaled more than 1300. In 1987 three sections were renovated and open for exhibition. These are the Japanese war criminals re-education area and the war criminals living area, cellar, and laboring areas.
