Dogs and other Pets 
Since 2002, the city government requires all the dogs to be registered. The first-time registration fee is 1000 RMB, and it will last for a year. When you register the dog, you need bring your passport and all documents that the local Chinese authority issued you (like your resident certificate) and proof of vaccination. No dogs taller than 35cm are allowed.

You need to renew the dog's certificate every year before it expires. The renewal certificate costs 500 RMB.

Buying a Pet

You can buy a pet at the pet market. It is suggested that you buy a dog already registered with the government; you should vaccinate your pet regardless of what the seller tells you. There are no regulations about cats.
