Tickets Price & Schedule The plane ticket prices for foreigners and for Chinese people are the same. Several years ago, foreigners needed to pay a higher price; this is no longer the case.
Most of the time, there are discount tickets. The discounts can range from 5% to 50%. Group travelers can get even cheaper tickets. It is very hard to know when the plane fares will drop to the lowest price. Discounted prices are usually released close to the departure date. Buying through a travel agent is the best way to get the discounts.
How to change domestic flight tickets & return tickets
For domestic flights You should exchange/change tickets before the plane takes off. Normally people can only change flights within the same airlines.
1. Changing flight tickets
a) If the flight route is the same, you just change the flight time If you bought a full price ticket, you have one free change of your flight time. If you bought a discounted ticket, you can only change the flight to the same discounted (or lower price) flight. If you decided to switch to a higher price ticket, you need to pay the difference. b) If the flight route is different. If you are going to change your flight route, You have to return the ticket and buy a new one. 2.Returning ticket
Normally it is easier to reimburse full price tickets. And the earlier you decide to return your ticket, the more money you can get reimbursed. Different airline companies have different policies. The general policy is: 24 hours before the flight takes off, you can reimburse 95% of the fees; 2-24 hours before the flight takes off, you can reimburse 90% of the fees; 2 hours before the flight takes off, you can reimburse 80% of the fees; After the plane takes off, you can reimburse 50% of the fees (Please read the back of your ticket for details) International flight
It will be more complicated to change an international flight or return an international flight ticket. Different airline companies from different countries have different policies.
Airport Tax (airport construction fee) Previously you needed to pay airport tax when boarding your flight. It is now included in the price of your ticket and you need not pay any tax when checking in for your flight.
Boarding a plane The normal procedure of boarding a flight in China is quite similar to that of western countries.
Luggage weight The China domestic air flight usually has a smaller weight limitation for traveler's free luggage transportation. The normal limitation is 20 kg per seat (or per person). If you are carrying more than that, then you have to pay a fee of 1.5% the full price of the flight multiplied by the extra weight in kilograms. For example, if you are carrying a luggage weight 30 kg, you need to pay for the extra 10 kg. The full price ticket is 1,000 RMB, so you need pay 1000(RMB) x 10(Kg) x 1.5%=150 RMB. This policy is not always strictly enforced.
Check-in time For domestic and also for international flight, the requirement is the same. The earliest check-in time is 2 hours before the departure time of the flight, and the check-in period stops 30 minutes before the departure time of the flight. It is recommended that you arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to your departure time in order to complete check-in, security, customs and immigration formalities before boarding.
International Arrival If you carry some expensive equipment (like a projector) with you, you might or might not have problems at customs. Whether it will happen is based on the related import/export laws; the customs officer needs to make sure that you are not going to sell what you brought in. If you cannot convince the customs officer that it is for your personal use (meaning that you are not going to sell it), the officer might refuse your request to bring it in. In this case, you will be required to leave the equipment at customs until you leave the country. You will be given a receipt which you will need to present when leaving the country to reclaim the item. A daily storage fee will be charged.
