Mianyang Municipal Committee and Municipal Government entrust professor Zhaochen of Northern University to design the medals for this calamity. The medals will be awarded to the soldiers and medical staff and volunteers who worked in Mianyang since the earthquake happened. The design of the medals has been finished recently,

Professor Zhao picked the phone call from the vice secretary Xuekang of Mianyang Municipal Committee in 2, June. Xue requested Zhao to design some medals for the people who help them after the quake. He said: “Please design a medal for the people who helped us in Mianyang. Because they will go back several days later. We want to show our sincerity thanks to them by awarding medals to them.” Professor Zhao promised at the same time and finished the design in 4, June.

The front of the medal is the bell tower of Beichuan County of Mianyang city. The time of that tower stopped since the earthquake happened. The back of the medal is the maps of Sichuan province and Mianyang city.

Professor Zhao says that the shape of the medals signifies special meaning. The inner outline of the medal takes the heart shape and it signifies that all Chinese people will support the earthquake victims. The outer outline takes the shape of a circle looking like the sun and it signifies that the sun in our heart will never sundown. Professor Zhao also says that the design of the medals is free.
