With the rapid development of Chinese economics, more and more foreigners come to China to work or travel around.

Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning province also attracts many foreigners from all around the world in the recent years. Gary, a foreign teacher of China Criminal Police College (CCPC) is just one of them. He lived in Shenyang for two years and it had been five years since he came to China from England. His favorite interest is traveling and now he wishes to get around in China. The journalist interviews him about his traveling experiences.
Journalist: I think you know that Beijing is going to hold the 2008 Olympic Games this summer. Are you going to attend the opening ceremony?
Gary: I would not attend the opening ceremony this summer. I had seen many opening ceremonies of Olympic Games in the past years either from TV or attending them. And they were all great and will last forever. The opening ceremony is a big celebration of people from all over the world.
Journalist: Do you plan to watch any game?
Gary: I have got some tickets and I am going to watch some final games in Beijing, like hockey. And I love playing hockey and I have been playing that game for more than 30 years.
Journalist: When are you going to leave for Beijing to watch the final games?
Gary: I will ride my bicycle there. I mean I am going to cycle from Shenyang to Beijing. And I have already made two routes. One way is to set off from Shenyang, then Shanghai, Tianjin and to Beijing. This route would be flat and would not cost me so much time. The other way is to start from Shenyang, then Chengde, some other mountains and to Beijing. This route would be longer for me than the first one. And it would cost me more than one week to arrive at Beijing.
Journalist: So why do you choose this way of traveling?
Gary: I’d like to say that since I had been traveling a long distance to arrive in China from British, then why not traveling around this country and see what happens everywhere?
I love adventurous life although there would be many problems which I can not foresee. And what troubles me the most is the language. I am now trying to practice Chinese and learn some everyday language which would do some help on my way to Beijing. As a teacher, I would like to tell my students my traveling experience and what is happening outside the classroom.
Journalist: Are you going to cycle by yourself?
Gary: Yes, I am going to cycle alone. Because traveling on my own, I can decide when to start on my way and where to linger a little longer. If you take a train to get around, the sceneries would pass by 120 miles per hour, or something like that. Well if you cycle along, you will see the sceneries 10 miles per hour maybe. And you would see the changes in China between different cities. It will be a great experience for me.
Journalist: I hope you have a pleasant journey.
Gary: Thank you!
