The northeast's first landfill power project was formally kicked off yesterday in Shenyang. The project which is between Shenyang and Asja Ambiente Italia S.p.A will turn garbage into power.

Landfill is a major method to deal with household garbage across the world. However it is a major source of methane which is potentially hazardous to the air and surrounding environment. Shenyang had been seeking cooperation with international companies to treat million tons garbage produced yearly in Shenyang.

After more than one year negotiation, Shenyang finally inked the deal with the Italian company. The construction of the project will create a way to turn waste into treasure as well as reduce the emission of greenhouse gas to the air.
